Another Repinski Cousin in Texas!!

Family History & Research
Repinski Family Tree
Repinski Family Branch
David Repinski-Cousin
Mathias Rzepinski-3rd Great Grandfather

On Monday, December 17th, 2018  I received and email on my LinkedIn account from a David Repinski.
He saw my name on the site and that I lived here in Texas.

The email mentioned that my name, John, reminded him of his dear departed grandfather who had the same name as myself.

We started corresponding and we realized that not only do we live two towns apart (he in Southlake, TX and myself in Keller, TX) but that we both hail from the state of Wisconsin.
His family moved to Georgia when he was a young child.

Read on for my discovery of a new cousin that lives right around the corner from me here in Texas and in the process of researching I discovered my 3rd Great Grandfather, Mathias Rzepinski!!

A Repinski Relative in Texas!!

David's family originated in Wisconsin as did mine.
Most of his line settled in Milwaukee.
Most of my line settled in Portage County.
I had quite a few cousins that also settled in the Milwaukee area as well.

I figured there might be a connection so I started looking into his line with the information he gave me on his parents and grandparents and great grandparents .

He mentioned that his great grandfather was a man named Izzy Repinski who was a police officer in Milwaukee. Researching Izzy brought up a few files in Ancestry.com and a few other places. From there is was cross referencing all of these sites and trying to determine other relations in his line. I then took my lines that I was aware of and looked at some of the names from his line. Further cross referencing and I deduced the following......

Our 2nd Great Grandfathers were Brothers

From what I can gather, David's great great grandfather, John Rzepinski,  & my great great grandfather, Simon Rzepinski, were brothers, both having been sons of one Mathias Rzepinski, who would be our 3rd great grandfather.

Our 3rd Great Grandfather-Mathias Rzepinski

I discovered through research of the last few days that this 3rd great grandfather, Mathias, immigrated  to America from Poland on a ship called the Amelia which arrived in Quebec Canada in the year 1859.

Mathias settled in Portage County and would be the progenitor of a few different Repinski branches throughout the state of Wisconsin who's descendants are now scattered through out the U.S.

Mathias' sons, John & Simon, arrived nine years later in 1868 on a ship called Anna, also arriving in Quebec.

I think that Mathias had other sons but I have been unable to link them together as of yet. Martin (Marcin) Repinski of the town of Sharon in Portage County is one of them as his line shares many of the same names of sons and daughters that my ancestral line does.

One brother to Milwaukee County & Another to Portage County

My 2nd great uncle, John Rzepinski, settled in Milwaukee.
There he would have a son named Izadore (Izzy) who would have a son named John who would have a son named Larry who would have a son named David, the subject of this story.

My 2nd great grandfather, Simon, first settled in Chicago where he would have two sons, Joseph, born in 1873 and Felix born in 1877.

Felix would eventually settle in the Ashland, Wisconsin area.
I have not been able to find out anything about his descendants as of this writing but I have a feeling that I have heard of a Repinski line up in that part of the state.

Simon and his wife Anna and their son Joseph would settle in the Sharon, Portage County, Wisconsin.
Joseph would have a son named Conrad (Clarence) who would have a son named Maurice who would have a son named John (myself).

It is amazing how some family connections come full circle almost 150 years later.

I will be writing about Mathias in a post soon as well as the ships of my Polish ancestors.

Happy 2019
